A Conversation About Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging

Our EDIB Vision Statement

Interfaith cares deeply about improving the lives of families with children who face daily adversity. We value communities, context, intentional action, innovation, shared learning, and impact. We appreciate that actionable knowledge comes from multiple sources, such as science and research, practice and policy as well as lived experiences and community wisdom.  We know that equity, diversity, and inclusion matter to our mission and aim to keep it at the heart of all that we believe, value, and do.

As a testament to these stated values and beliefs, we at Interfaith are committed to building capacity and leading efforts to create a more representative, equitable, and inclusive organization. We envision a future where:

  • We engage in reflection and action to enhance diversity, equity and inclusion, internally and externally.
  • We can demonstrate how diversity, equity and inclusion matter in and strengthen our work.
  • We can productively and effectively engage across social differences and leverage them to enrich our community and culture and strengthen our work.

Diversity: We commit to increasing diversity, which is expressed in myriad forms, including race and ethnicity, gender and gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, language, culture, national origin, religious commitments, age, (dis)ability status and political perspective.

Equity: We commit to working actively to challenge and respond to bias, harassment, and discrimination. We are committed to a policy of equal opportunity for all persons and do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, disability, religion, height, weight, or veteran status.

Inclusion: We commit to pursuing deliberate efforts to ensure that our organization and shelters are places where differences are welcomed, different perspectives are respectfully heard and where every individual feels a sense of belonging and inclusion. We know that by building a critical mass of diverse groups and creating a vibrant climate of inclusiveness, we can more effectively leverage the resources of diversity to advance our collective capabilities.

Some have emphasized the importance of considering all three topics – diversity, equity and inclusion – which have been likened to various aspects of attending a dance:

  • Diversity is where everyone is invited to the party
  • Equity means that everyone gets to contribute to the playlist
  • Inclusion means that everyone has the opportunity to dance
  • Belonging results from all of the above.

Come dance with us!
