We empower families and communities to break the cycle of homelessness through outreach, housing, and prevention. Through our programs, we serve hundreds of families throughout Snohomish County.
We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the following positions:
Child & Family Advocate
Position Purpose
This position serves families and their children residing in Interfaith’s family shelter sites. The ideal candidate possesses a knowledge and understanding of the effects children face when residing in emergency shelters, including but not limited to trauma-informed care principles, common socio-emotional and physical developmental milestones, and tactics for building resiliency.
PT position at 20 hours per week minimum. Hours range in afternoons/evenings from approx. 2pm-6pm.
Essential Job Duties:
- Assess the developmental educational needs of youth at the Interfaith Family Shelter sites. In cooperation with the local school district and in coordination with parents, agency staff and community providers, establish a learning plan for each youth.
- Assess needs related to parent / caregiver education and support; create and monitor a strengths-based family support plan for each family being served Interfaith Family Shelter sites. A learning plan is established with each family for life-long learning.
- Plan educational, social and developmental activities for children & their families at the Interfaith Family Shelter sites. This includes planning and executing the after-school Learning Hour.
- Maintain positive relationships with school district support personnel, including McKinney Vento liaisons for each youth being served.
- Coordinate with parents, youth, and education programs to enroll children, support consistent attendance/participation, support academic achievement, and advocate to ensure compliance with the McKinney-Vento Act.
- Support coordination of child and family support services for families attending public schools including maintaining positive relationships with other homeless housing providers.
- Establish and maintain ongoing relationships with service providers in the community relating to the child and caregiver needs of family participants; provide support and navigation services to help ensure families access appropriate services to meet their needs. Attend community meetings as needed.
- Maintain organized and accurate case notes, files, and other required documentation that will be reviewed regularly by the Child & Family Program Manager. Must be able to utilize basic electronic client databases as well as basic Office suite tools.
- Be present at all Learning Hour activities and maintain program equipment, materials and supplies needed for the Learning Hour program. This includes recruiting, training and scheduling volunteers.
- Participate in program, department and agency staff meetings as part of the Shelter Operations Team when appropriate.
- Assist with planning, setup, implementation, security and clean-up of Children’s Activity Room and spaces.
- Coordinate birthday celebrations for each child.
- Attend and participate in required training sessions, and community professional development offerings as requested.
- Adhere to all Interfaith volunteer protocols.
- Assure that clients, residents, staff, volunteers and community partners are treated with respect and dignity regardless of race, ethnic background, gender, or socioeconomic background.
- Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned and required by program.
Education: Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in human services, mental health, or education preferred or Associate’s degree with at least 3 years working with children and their caregivers.
Requirements:
- Mental Health experience or education experience preferred.
- Knowledge of Trauma-Informed Care and ACE’s, and secondary trauma.
- Knowledge of McKinney-Vento Act and familiarity with public education systems.
- Ability to work closely and effectively with children of varying ages in whole-family settings.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals of differing skills and backgrounds.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, while honoring each other’s opinions.
- Ability to work a flexible evening schedule, including being willing to be on-call as scheduled.
- Reliable transportation and a Washington Driver’s License.
- Ability to collaborate and network with others.
- First Aid/CPR certified.
- Pass a background check.

Salary: $21.00-23.00/hour
